Local Amenities

The local area is very well served with a wide range of cafes, bistros, pubs, restaurants, speciality and high street stores.  Here’s a small selection.

Missed breakfast?

Try Preacher’s or the Lunch Box across the road on Lady Lawson street, or come out of the main door turn right and 4 doors down is the Coffee Grill. Pork lovers will enjoy ‘Oink’ (Victoria Street) which offers delicious Scottish hog roast rolls. If you’re really pushed for time, pop next door to the cafe at the Edinburgh College of Art (term time only).

Dining out?

‘Made in Italy’ is a popular pizzeria on the Grassmarket, next door to ‘Petit Paris’ (if you prefer a French flavour). On Victoria Street you will find the Grain Store and Howie’s both providing great value Scottish fare.
‘Abstract’ on Castle Terrace often offers live piano entertainment along with great food.

Thirsty?

Several  traditional no-nonsense pubs are recommended – The White Hart and The Last Drop on the Grassmarket and the Bow Bar on Victoria Street. On certain evenings The White Hart has traditional live Scottish music.

High Street?

Turn left and walk 5 minutes to Tollcross where you will find a number of supermarkets including Tescos and Sainsburys as well as chemists (Boots and Superdrug) and a range of other typical high street stores. For larger shopping malls there are the St James Centre and Waverley Exchange mall in the centre of town and Ocean Terminal by the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith.
