Edinburgh well deserves the name ‘festival city’. There are all types of event throughout the year and there really is something for everyone. Our self-catering apartment, just off the Grassmarket in the heart of the Old Town is a great base for exploring the city and is a short walk from all the major festival events.
- December and January – Edinburgh’s Christmas and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay
- June - International Film Festival
- July - Jazz & Blues Festival
- August and September – Book Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh International Festival and Military Tattoo
- September - Edinburgh Mela
In addition, 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s bard, Rabbie Burns and The Homecoming will celebrate this through a range of events in Edinburgh and across Scotland in 2009.
Outside of the main festival events, Edinburgh is well served by an excellent range of museums, galleries and theatres, including;
The National Museum of Scotland (Chambers Street – 10 minutes walk from apartment), has a fantastic range of exhibits telling the story of Scotland’s land, people and culture.
The National Gallery of Scotland and the Scottish Royal Academy are located just off Princes Street, a 15 minute walk from the apartment.
The Usher Hall, Edinburgh’s main concert hall reopens in the spring of 2009 after major refurbishment and is only 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
